Can you love?

It’s strange how we can pour our heart out to someone

How we can give them everything we have within us

And still there’s no reciprocation

Some people just aren’t capable of loving others I suppose

See that’s what I don’t understand

Because I can love so easily

I can love until my heart breaks from the strain

And still I see an empty hand returned to me

I’m baffled by the response

It makes me want to stay inside and close myself off from the entire world

I don’t want to be a part of this wretched place

Where nobody wants to share even a sliver of their heart

They’re too afraid of what it might cost them

And too guarded to show what they’re really made of

So love is neither here nor there

For you cannot have a single measure of love without a warm reciprocating heart
