A sliver of hope

There was only one last hope
A sliver at very best
As her prognosis was delivered
After the results of her final test

Her face drawn downward
Her black shoes reflecting the light
Now miserably downtrodden
Oh she was a pitiful sight

The pain of the confirmation
More than she could even bear
The treatment experimental
What would she do there?

The room began spinning
As the news constricted her heart
She used to feel free as a bird
Now she was falling apart

Her life a shattered dream
Broken by the news unfurled
A discovery of her body’s betrayal
Now tainting her perfect world
