Pestered and Polished

She had polished the silver
For the umpteenth time
Yet was still being pestered
As if she were committing a crime

Nothing she accomplished
Was ever satisfactory
Even though she toiled all day
As if she worked in a factory

Yet she carried on
Never shirking her duties
Ignoring her snarky old step sisters
The evil-eyed beauties

And she did the very best
That could be expected
Even though she was always
Scoffed and rejected

And at long last
Her prince did come
Saving her altogether
From a life so glum

And she appreciated him
All the more
For she’d never known happiness
Ever before
