Merely existing

Silver streaks flicker
Across graying walls
Lights dimmed
Monotony calls

Worthless shows
From an old analog set
Meaningless images
Now their only outlet

Neither notices
How time passes by
Lost to a world
Which feeds them lies

And this is their life
Merely existing
Neither feels the need
To start resisting

And days turn into weeks
Then weeks into years
And soon they’re both
Living their worst fears

For time has surely
Left them behind
With no possible way
To go back or rewind
