Sometimes you just have to follow your heart…

After a long while, he gave me a fighting chance
to show him a little bit of love and romance.
Years streaked by before he finally noticed me;
the love of his life, so willing, so free.
Many others I’d met never ended up swayed,
and sadly for them, that’s why they never got laid.
The problem is some people just can’t believe
in a person who hasn’t got something up their sleeve.
So many live their whole lives full of doubt and suspicion,
never trusting that anyone could have a fair disposition.
And it’s sad but true that the trusting are few.
Sometimes you just have to follow your heart.

  1. such a wonderful poem of listening to our intuition Michelle.
    This line made me laugh…
    “Many others I’d met never ended up swayed,
    and sadly for them, that’s why they never got laid.

    1. Well, I figured it rhymes, it’s funny, and it’s true. Lol… The sad part is, it does take a very long time for anyone to trust these days. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt. Discernment is everything and I think I’m a pretty good judge of character. Glad it made you laugh. 😁

    This resonates with me. I can’t tell you how many times I was told in past relationships that I was “too nice” and that meant I had something up my sleeve. “No one is that nice,” those exes would say, “you must be up to something…” It’s so frustrating to be doubted when you’re being honest. What can you do? I eventually gave up on the whole idea of a lasting relationship with anyone and threw in the towel. So, yeah, I understand this poem on a deep level. You really nailed it, Michelle. I’m glad you shared this piece. 🙂

    1. It’s the same old story isn’t it. I think people are just too afraid to trust anyone anymore. It’s a sad world we live in sometimes. I’ve always been one to believe that it’s better to take a risk on love than to never try at all. I suppose after facing enough rejections it’s easy to want to give up. Love was always one of those things that I swore I’d never give up on. I guess my stubbornness has been what’s carried me through. 🙂
