Convoluted currents

There’s a stormy sea
grown inside of me
It began with a patch of foam
then grew into an unkind home

I’ve watched it churn
I’ve seen the swirls
bleak yet brilliant
as each unfurls

Memories fuel
the murky brew
sad and sorrowful
images of you

The outer waves
seem almost serene
but underneath
is a raging scene

There are the days when
the waters shimmer
but as the world turns
things start to simmer

Sandy crystals
flee my palms
I breath deeper
to remain calm

Once again
I try to leave
but like a prisoner
I can only grieve

I start to lose pieces
of what was me
watching as the waves
carry them out to sea

This old rhythmic cycle
beginning once more
whilst I’m still tied
to this weathered shore

Hard

Why’s life so hard
I want to know
I’ve worked so long
But got nothing to show

And I want to do more
But can’t figure out what
This annoyance I feel
Is like a punch to the gut

Trying to decide
What comes next
But all my options
Seem too complex

A blueprint for life
Is really what I need
Without one I fear
I may never succeed

A whish of wisdom

You never know what’s coming
You never know what’s near
The world can be so sneaky
Far from kind and sincere

So guard your heart with an anvil
Your mind with a song
Praying that all the good things
Will carry you along

Don’t be fooled by the glitz
Don’t let glam be your guide
Follow the way of heartstrings
Let those transform your mind

Give away what you don’t need
Perhaps even the stuff you do
And never settle for less
Than what you know is true

*It’s been said that if you’re having trouble calming your mind, humming can help because you can’t hum and think simultaneously. Anyway, that’s where the idea for this poem came from. Like so many others, I’m an overthinker, and this humming method really helps me. And now that I’m thinking about it, I bet whistling while you work might help, too. If you give it a try, let me know if it helps.

Much love to all of you, ~M xo

Gentle reminders

Gentle reminders
Softly spoken whispers
Sent on stardust
Sealed with kisses

Let these be the messages
I never forget
whenever the moon
decides to disappear

Let these be the reminders
alighting my pathway
until the day
the sun ceases to shine

Moving mayhem

I haven’t had coffee in weeks
no desire to change the sheets

It’s all just gone to hell
this place where I currently dwell

Some furniture has disappeared
the rest is about to be cleared

Get me outta here I say
but this month won’t go away

Time has not been in my favor
so I continue to stew and labor

If only I could speed things up
I’d be happy as a jolly ol pup
