My philosophy

I stopped chasing people long ago
and those who wanted to stay, still remain

I’ve learned that we can’t hold on
to those who need a new view

We can’t stifle the ones
who we thought would stay forever

Every person has one life to live

If we don’t allow others to grow and change
and make their own decisions
then they won’t be able to live
the way they choose

I would never want to hold someone back
from following their dreams and ambitions

In fact, I’d much rather be completely alone
for the rest of my life
than to cause anyone heartache

Fortunately, I’m surrounded every day
by people who have chosen to be near me
and I cherish every single person
who has stood by me through thick and thin

I believe I have the best life
anyone could possibly have
because I’ve let go of those
who weren’t meant for me

Little Leaf

leaves-1051633_960_720

Little leaf blowing
Near the roses in my yard
A thing of wonder
Though most disregard
I love to watch you
Scamper and prance
Free from your branches
You’re finally able to dance
I often wonder why the world
Seems to forget who you are
I suppose most are more interested
In all the bright shiny stars
But to me you’re a thing of beauty
As you bring life to my dreary day
And I’m so very grateful
That you are never far away

Humble pie

I’ve never sought fame,
and I’ve never searched for fortune,
even though the hand I was dealt
was such a small portion.
But when you’re used to having little,
brimming isn’t what you need.
Your life becomes humble,
never filled with pointless greed.
So, I’m thankful for my lot in life;
I’ve been doing just fine.
Meager but abundantly happy
and wonderfully resigned.

I met a man…

I met a man
Tall n skinny
Ebony skin
Eyes new guinea

His rough hands
Overlapped my own
Wide smiles
Set the tone

Kindness felt
Filling my heart
Sad at last
When we did part

Never even
Caught his name
Moments like these
Never leave us the same

The true treasures of life

dog-4286921_1280

Every day I realize
More and more what I have
It isn’t my belongings, dusty on shelves
It isn’t the things I’ve accomplished
Or even the things I’ve mastered
But instead, It’s the people
And the experiences
The beauty of life itself
These are the things that matter
The things that are worth loving
The things I want to fight for
I hope I never lose sight
Of the true treasures of life
