Just let it in…

There are so many facets of love
Is there any way to fully understand them all?
Unfortunately, love doesn’t come in a one size fits all sort of box
It doesn’t come wrapped in perfection and realistic expectations
Love is often messy and not very well thought out at all
It’s an emotion that often takes us by complete surprise
And there never seems to be an explanation for how it starts
The line between love and hate seems to be easily bridged
We see this when we dislike someone one day and love them the next
And the funny thing is, we don’t get to choose who we’re going to love
In fact, it seems that love chooses us; it always has and always will
We are helpless to resist the power of love even though we often try
And running away from love seems to be the worst thing we can do
Love will always find us, no matter where we try to hide
Go ahead and try it if you don’t believe this to be the truth
Just accept the fact that love will never make sense and it doesn’t need to
The only thing you need to worry about now
Is how you’re going to begin to let love in.

Fury

There’s a war
Breaking out
Beneath the surface
And the heart
Isn’t winning
This time

Wednesday

The clock
Was restless
In anticipation
Of another day

The girl
Was helpless
To keep procrastination
At bay

The work
Was senseless
And wouldn’t
Go away

The day
Was useless
Windy
And gray

The outlook
Was pointless
But she’d promised
To stay

The desire
Was reckless
To find
Another way

The afternoon
Was zealous
Beseeching her
To play

The schoolbook
Was jealous
Begging her
Not to sway

The convincing
Was endless
And she became
Its prey

The pendulum
Was voiceless
With nothing else
To say

What would you do?

detective-1424831_1280

What would you do
If you had a whole day?
Would you leave behind the things
That always get in your way?

Would you watch a sunset?
Or perhaps fly a kite?
Maybe sit on your front porch
And drink milkshakes all night?

What would you do
If you had an entire week?
Would you search for all the things
You’ve been dying to seek?

Would you act like a pirate?
And finally go on an adventure?
Searching far and wide
For that lost buried treasure?

What would you do
If you had a full month?
Would you express to the whole world
That you’ve had quite enough?

Would you go on a rampage?
Perhaps tell everyone how you feel?
Or would you just stay inside
And keep everything concealed?

What would you do
If you had a complete year?
Would you investigate all the things
Which have never been clear?

Would your curious mind take over?
Would you become a sleuth?
Perhaps a professional eavesdropper
So you could uncover the truth?

What would you do
If you had a forever?
Would you still stay inside
Even in good weather?

Or would you finally just enjoy
Everything you’ve got
And not let your life
Be all for naught

What would you do?

Petulance

people-3070630_1280

Sometimes I just want to wrap myself tightly
In faded old memories and beautiful regrets
Oh to be able to forget the present time
And just relive the days of juvenile delinquency
To be young and free with no more responsibility
But the world is unrelenting in its high and mighty ways
Creating senseless rules that have no rhyme or reason
And we become sucked into the pit of persuasion
Which forces us to admit beyond our better judgement
That we must be good, righteous, and truth bearing beings
And all it does is grow us up into boring, blundering, baboons
Many of whom have hardly any imagination left at all
