Truth be told

I had to say goodbye,
not because of what was said
but because of the unsaid.
Your words just never materialized,
and words being as they are,
the lifeblood of my being,
I began to die from the lack of them.
Long ago, I knew your words so intimately,
but then they remained frozen,
resting frigidly on the tip of your tongue.
And even though I trusted you in earnest
with the conviction of a true believer,
you stopped being as you were,
the truth and spirit in you unrecognizable,
just a breath away from mine.
Your silence flooded my body,
and I was drowned by words
that never surfaced.
You felt empty to me
like ashes in somber refrain.
And the wind took you quietly away from me
on a path that never belonged to me.
It was in that moment I realized
we were never meant to be
because real love speaks
from deeply buried places
and never runs out of words.

My sunshiny girl

The sun is always rising from your pocket.
A song is ever frolicking in your hair.
The ground is perpetually dancing beneath your feet.
Delight is incessantly playing in your eyes.
And in shimmery rays of glory,
the color of life is forever found in you.

*Sunshine – the light given off by the star around which the planet Earth revolves.
(My daughter… you are this light).

You

You find me in
the busy of day;
no matter how
you find a way.

A brief moment
to send a kiss,
it’s the kind of thing
you never miss.

Every opportunity
you seek me out
and oh, the love
I feel throughout.

Even now,
while you’re asleep,
I feel your love
in dreams so deep.

Connected by
a force unknown;
you’ve become
my one true home.

This world

I haven’t figured out yet
why hatred exists,
but it swirls around me;
why must it persist?

It saddens my heart,
this destruction of men,
and I wonder how it started,
or has it always been?

The meanness of this world
lingers all around;
I try to tip-toe right by it
but still, I am found.

A jab in the stomach,
a slap to the face,
always forced to feel
like such a disgrace.

Sadly, this evil lurks
behind every innocent-looking door;
it robs us of our freedoms,
and we’re shunned forevermore.

But a few sympathetic hugs
or some kindhearted smiles
can cause a trail of love
to spread on for miles.

So even when we’re bullied,
we’ve got to fight from within;
instead of spreading more hatred,
there is a better way to win.

Open up your heart
and kiss away despair;
all you have to do
is show how much you care.

The world may drown in hatred,
but you can still survive;
by being humble and gentle,
your spirit will continue to thrive.

Don’t listen to the haters;
you know what you carry inside.
And no matter what happens,
never forget how hard you tried.

I live for the moments…

I live for the moments,
the rare ones with you,
sacred and special,
even though they are few.
And I hold on to those times,
keep them close to my heart,
so whenever you leave,
we’re never really apart.

I live for the moments,
the days that we share,
living and loving
with your smile right there.
And I’ll never stop wanting
to keep you close by my side;
the best times in life
are when we collide.

I live for the moments,
the times we’re alone;
we may not get them often,
but you are my home.
And I love you more
with every year that goes by,
you’re the reason I live
and the reason I sigh.
