It was the year 2117…

It was the year 2117, and a brand new shiny city had been built in the middle of the rainforest.  Strangely enough, there were hardly any trees left, just a few scattered vines growing haphazardly on some of the buildings.  The Amazon River wound its way through the spacious city, and man-made islands could be seen throughout.  Streets were a thing of the past, and boats and airplanes were too.  Those who were mentally strong enough could travel instantaneously through mind control.  Others who lacked this ability were at the mercy of those who could.

Most of the buildings sat atop wide pedestals and were sporadically spaced throughout the city.  Some were shaped like huge cigars standing on end, while others were shaped like flying saucers atop narrower single columned structures.  There were only a few ordinary looking buildings, and even those were all elevated off the ground.  A maze of passageways existed underneath the crowded city.  Vines crept and clung to the buildings’ undersides, and the majority of the passages were dark and vacant.

Most people walked along netted bridges, which had been built high above the city.  These bridges seemed to connect most of the buildings so that people never really had to set foot on the ground.  The majority of people were very free with their bodies.  Little clothing was worn, and most of the people seemed intoxicated and grungy looking.  There were quite a few structures built of woven bamboo.  These places were used mainly by the lower class citizens.  Many of the buildings did not even have rooftops and were instead completely open to the elements.  The upper-class citizens were mostly found in the taller buildings, which were all constructed of polished metal.

In the heart of the city was a large open pavilion, and the view from this vantage point was breathtaking.  The pavilion was divided into sections by bamboo woven walls.  Each separate area held feasting tables, which ran the length of the open rooms.  The rooms were crowded, and extra seats were nonexistent.  Food was not available for purchase; instead, neon-colored alcoholic beverages were served in shot glasses.  These colored concoctions littered the tables from one end to the next.

The rooms were filled with people who appeared expressionless and incoherent.  One woman even had her newborn baby lying in front of her on the table.  The baby was malnourished and naked, untouched and unloved, with its umbilical cord still attached.  One of the woman’s breasts rested along the edge of the table, allowing her baby to suckle while she proceeded to get wasted.  A sign above her read, “Viewer Discretion Advised.”

This story is based on a dream I had, February 2, 2017. I wanted to share this dream again because I’m starting to wonder if this is a reality we could one day be facing.

  1. Dreadful future, of well, it’s good it appeared only in a dream. Night mare maybe?
Realistically, seeing oneself high above the ground in a dream is good, you may have been longing to lift yourself above the daily routine and the things which weigh us down.
However, seeing a nursling in a dream means having some troubles and feeling sick sometimes.
You are describing it as a movie script which makes sense and probably has no other meaning as that of subconscious providing images which tell you personally something.
I know I won’t be around that long as to reach 2117, but whatever it is people are heading, I hope it’s not like that.
By that time also major natural disasters will have happened, floods, wildfires, there will be more deserts, less land above the ocean, and the living space might be sparse for survivors. Tough. We just want to produce and manufacture more, use more AI, therefore, human mental ability will be decreasing, and we might as well become attachments to devices. That’s what everybody wants at this point, don’t they? We are delegating everything to devices and AI. Time to wake up, but who doesn’t love their convenient life style when they have nothing to do physically?
I wish you better and sunnier dreams, and it’s not out of question that we can change our fate completely.
    Merry Christmas if you celebrate!

    1. I’m just now reading this, and I just want to say thank you for leaving such a detailed comment. I haven’t thought much about the meaning of the dream having to do with my own life, and it’s been such a long time since I dreamt it that I’m not even sure what was going on in my life at that time. But with the way the world is going, I do wonder if parts of my dream could eventually happen. I honestly wish I had more dreams like this because they’re always so interesting to me when I do. I hope you had a very happy Christmas, and may the new year bring you many blessings Inese. 💫

    1. Thanks Lee, they really do. What about you, do you ever have such vivid dreams? I don’t meet a lot of people who do, but it’s always interesting when I find someone who can relate.

      1. I actually resonated a lot with your story, in the way that I used to write my early fiction based on my dreams. When I was going through a tough time, my dreams were incredibly vivid, and writing about them helped me figure out what was going on in my mind. I used to have a story on here, but I recently removed it for editing. I’ll let you know if I post it again. 🙂

        1. Most of my older stories are based on dreams as well. I used to keep a dream journal, and I think I dream more often when I write them down, or at least I seem to remember them easier when I do. Definitely let me know if you post it again. 😉

    1. Thank you CQ, I’ve been itching to repost this for awhile now. This dream has been haunting me for such a long time. My dreams are always very vivid, but this one played out like a movie in my mind and I still can’t shake the vision.

  2. The dream probably has a strong significance, at least metaphorically, using a lot of concrete images to convey change. Cold, mind control, inhuman humans even to callous mothers. Sad. Our avenue of escape will not be to a place like that, M. Continue to rest and trust in Jesus. We must maintain faith in him. My most desperate concern is having the ability to continue Christian influence and training to our children. I haven’t seen my grand children since Thanksgiving because of Covid. Their family of six all have it. I took some food and cleaning supplies to them yesterday. Had to leave it on the curb and drive off. Two came to the door and waved at me. Heart breaking. And their schooling is definitely nil as much as their mother tries. Lord, have mercy on us.

    1. With everything going on these days, this dream just feels all too familiar. Almost like parts of it are bound to happen. I’m so sorry about your family. There are so many people out sick with the virus at my hubby’s work. About 20 people in all. Hopefully things will get better in the new year.
