Fifty-two

Sometimes
I feel so small
out here
underneath it all
The sky is so vast
every mountain so high
I’m a mere speck of dust
to every passer-by
Insignificant
by design
feeling ready
to resign
Like a splash from a waterfall
an unnoticed drip
splattered upon grandeur
preparing to slip
Yet I wonder
if I could be
a friend
to the mighty sea
As insufficient as I am
I’ve got so many dreams
under the weight of them all
I’m nearly bursting at the seams
Ambitions
overflowing
completely ready
to get going
But the path is never straight
and the journey can be so long
can’t always get someplace
unless you’re really strong
A new age
a new me
I wonder
who I’ll be
I’ve searched my whole life
through a forest of tall trees
looking for all the answers
as if they’re there on the breeze
Just more questions
forever found
scattered lifelessly
on the ground
Wonder if I’ll ever find my way
I’m over halfway through
This is just how life is
when you’re turning fifty-two

  1. Happy belated birthday to you! Age is just a number and life is what we make of it. Plenty of joy, drama and challenges and beauty out there. Enjoy ☺️

            1. Do you have a favorite type? I love Sees Candies, mostly their nuts n chews. But my waistline screams at me every time I go to eat one. 😅

            2. Oh I love all sorts, even the one wit with sea salt or nuts and berries. Much to choose from. Haha, I think a woman suits a bit of curve. Waist not want not 😁

  2. I’m in my 20s and I find that life becomes more beautiful as we learn and grow with the passage of time, in this ever-evolving journey, each moment contributes to the tapestry of our existence, making the beauty of life even more profound.

    1. Thank you, Derrick. 😊
It was officially yesterday. Funny enough, my hubby just informed me right before I read your comment that I’d be 13 if it were today. I guess it’s a good thing it was yesterday or he’d really be robbing the cradle. lol

  3. Hey, happy birthday, Michelle! This is a poignant, touching poem. So many lines resonated, especially these:

“I’m a mere speck of dust
    to every passer-by”

My friend, I see you. You’ll never go unnoticed by me. Rest assured, you matter, and I’m glad to call you my friend.  😊

As for age, at this late date, I merely add up my digits and I’m good to go. This year, I turned 6 (6+0). That make you 7 (5+2). Hm…I guess that also makes you my elder. 😀 (Just kidding)

    Have a good birthday, Michelle!

    1. Hey Mike,
Thank you for this… really means a lot. 😊
And I love your thoughts on adding up the digits. On your next birthday it looks we’ll be the exact same age. lol 😅
      Hope you’re having a wonderful week. 🙂

          1. That’s awesome. I’m 64 and Mr.T is 75. Our weather has been awesome here. We built a pergola over the weekend. Then yesterday we went for a vigorous nude hike and we felt so young being out free. Then Mr. T played pickleball for 2 hours last night. So there’s that too. 😉
