Feigned brilliance

Brilliant blue skies
and oceans sparkling black
you’re the only reason
I never went back

It all turned to feigned brilliance
and murky seas
I wish I’d seen sooner
the truth in these

Realization comes
when sparkles dim
and I finally figured out
all the trouble I was in

And now I’m never going back
to that place of false hopes
Back in those days
I was at the end of my ropes

Gentle reminders

Gentle reminders
Softly spoken whispers
Sent on stardust
Sealed with kisses

Let these be the messages
I never forget
whenever the moon
decides to disappear

Let these be the reminders
alighting my pathway
until the day
the sun ceases to shine

Hollow requirements

Between the head
and the heart
we can feel hollow
and pulled apart

All those hidden spaces
in-between
are often isolated
and unseen

The requirements
within our core
leave us yearning
forevermore

Until necessities
are found at our feet
we can feel empty
and incomplete

Few ever find
what they’re searching for
most are adrift
and wanting more

Some are lucky
to see their way
we’re fortunate
if those ones stay

Darkness and light
are ever near
consequences
aren’t always clear

But the path
is always ours to decide
we just need someone
to stand beside

Solitary sufferings

I’m in that place again
a solitary prison of self-pity
dissolving in a room without windows
punishing the portrait of myself

Why do I repeatedly come here
to a place of unnecessary suffering
blotting out every light source
to the detriment of my soul

I’m like a vacant-eyed visitor
destined for undeniable destruction
welcoming a withering existence
as the world shuffles on

I could choose to chase the sunshine
become a ball of light myself
but what’s the fun in sunbeams
who always disappear into the dark

Meandering thoughts…

As spring bleeds into summer,
I know fall will soon usher in,
and the memories of you
will just become more vivid.
This was your season,
the one my dream foretold.

You were happiest here
amongst the acorns
and the cottonwood trees.
And you never missed a chance
to tell me how it was the song
of your heart.

As more memories flood me now,
I wrestle with the wind
as it disrupts my tears;
a cold hand for comfort
is all it can offer my soul.

The light of you
left my path long ago.
But I still see you
in every golden leaf
that glides my way.
