Reminding her that happiness
Would eventually draw near

Her eyes
A sea of uncertainty
Revealed a torrid past
Of waves not easily reckoned with
For the fervent tide was still there
Lingering on the isolated shore
And the longer he gazed
Into her peridot eyes
The more he realized
Just how deep and vast
The ocean really was
Which separated him from her

Window of warning
Opened above
Rays of sunshine
Warmth of love
Voice of reasoning
Calling her name
Beseeching her to leave
A life of shame
Reminder of things
Futures to come
Imploring her to remember
What cannot be undone
Choices, decisions
Whirred through her head
Her choosing too late
For she was already dead

I’m still trying to forget
Sweep the rubble under the mat
Dust off the cushions
Where you once sat
But the ruins still stand
Weathered by all the storms
And my heart still feels
Ambivalent and torn
I pray that one day
The past will be buried deep
But the mountains which remain
Seem almost too steep
And I wonder where we’ll be
In the years ahead
Surely scaling those mountains
Or be lost instead

Drowning in the weald
Without a sword or shield
She was lost to the deep
Twilight had put her to sleep
But he somehow found her there
So full of sorrow and despair
And he gave her what he could
Although he was no Robin Hood
She applauded him for trying his best
This mission being his most important test
Yet both realized there had to be another way
Or they’d both be lost to the vast array
So a final plan was set into motion
Filled with dedication, love, and emotion
And determination eventually got them there
Saving them both from the path to nowhere
