Child of mine

That fascinating first moment
I looked upon your face,
I was devotedly in love;
no time could I waste.

I held you so closely
upon my proud mama chest,
staring so intently;
no time for me to rest.

Barely daring to breathe,
you were a most profound gift;
more important than anything,
my focus made the shift.

Counting all of your fingers
and your sweet, kissable toes,
you were my darling angel
with the cute button nose.

Never before witnessing
a wonder such as this,
I whispered, I love you…
and gave you your first kiss.

You were my tiny bundle of joy
securely wrapped all for me;
a whole new world unfolded;
you were all that I could see.

Such a beautiful young lady now,
and I miss you more than you know;
I’m thankful for our years together
and the time I watched you grow.

In-between the gloom

Heavy hearts
and ruined days
Sunlight sparkles
shadowed by haze
And yet in-between
is a glimmer of gold
A future so bright
the perfect secret untold
Layers of pristine petals
align in an exquisite array
Carpeting our path
showing us the way
Guiding our footsteps
providing us with hope
A gentle reminder
helping us to cope

I see you…

I see you
all of you
the most intricate parts
as well as the outer covering

And to know you
is to love you like no other

For you are the most wonderful creature
who I never could’ve guessed would exist

But then I found you
and I uncovered all the many layers of you
year after year
and bit by bit

You’re the handprint on my heart

You’re the handprint on my heart,
the ache that consumes my days.
You’re the air that swirls around me,
always there in so many ways.

You’ve touched me like no other,
having become the fabric of my soul,
and I love you more each day
as you’re the one who makes me whole.
