Memories of you…

Sky blue eyes
And a soft squishy belly
Kind warm smile
Often watching the telly

Passionately patriotic
And oh so humble
Hardly ever a complaint
Or any kind of grumble

Lover of his country
A soldier he became
Flying the flag high
In every parade

Talented carpenter
Was his dedicated trade
Whistling while he worked
A lovely tune and serenade

Green thumbed man
And lover of nature
His dedication to God
Should have made him a preacher

Skilled kite maker
And master kite flyer
Practically nothing
Could ever go higher

Lifesaver candies
And minty cigarettes
Things he would one day
Very much regret

Was it black coffee
Or earl grey tea?
As I contentedly bounced
On his never tiring knee

Crackers and sardines
He shared them well
Convincingly trying
To tell me they were swell

Tums for indigestion
He always had a pack
And even though it pained him
His smile never lacked

Rosy red cheeks
And an almost bald head
Read his Bible every night
Before going off to bed

Sadly enough
It’s now been too long
I can’t even remember
His favorite song

He now rests with grandma
Still whistling his serenades
And his kindhearted demeanor
Will certainly never fade

I miss him immensely
He gave me my love for life
But I’m so very thankful
He’s now free from pain and strife

Riding the current

I’ve been stranded
Exiled in a way
Just another captive
Lost at sea
Riding the current
To another world
Hoping this reality
Is better than the last

Where you’ll find me

Capture

Look out over
The shimmering sea,
It’s the place
where you’ll find me.

The sea is where
my heart resides,
you’ll hear it as I stand
by your side.

I may only be
your invisible friend,
but I’ll always be there,
even in the end.

Reach out your hand,
and you’ll find mine.
Our hearts and souls
forever entwined.

Stop and Listen

geese-2809000_1280

Stop and listen
Hear the sound
New life teeming
All around

Look at the fields
The sky, the earth
All so lovely
Full of rebirth

Listen to the ocean
And the stoic geese
Notice the beauty
Find your inner peace

See the world
Through brand new eyes
What you observe
Might be a surprise

Stop for a moment
Catch your breath
Plenty to live for
Before life meets death

Finished

At the peak of the crest
She’s tossed aside
Flung carelessly
Violently
Without regard
Against jagged rocks
And hollow crevices
Where life once teemed
With awe and discovery
Her battered body
Lies forsook
Bloodied and bruised
Lifeless and forgotten
Her daggered flesh
Barely responding
As the salty spray bites
Licking at her wounds
Washing away the evidence
Of a vindictive heart
And she gives up the fight
Succumbing to the void
As the tidepools shimmer
Beneath a forlorn moon
Her spirit at last
Drifting away
Soundlessly
Serenely
On the wisp of a thread
Life reclaimed
