Words

Words
I wrestle with them.
Some are just worth fighting for.

And even one good word can make life worth living — bringing hope to a day, which might otherwise be dark and dismal.

But a bad word can be so disheartening — often reminds me of a rosebud that wilts before it ever has the chance to bloom.

If only our words could always be like rainbows,
we’d never have to feel so gray.

Solemn wishes

woman-3741339_1280

Amid a fire
Built for two
I solemnly sit
And think of you

And I wonder
How this life would be
If you were ever
Here with me

I know the answers
Are so close by
Found within the depths
Of every sigh

What we share
Isn’t going away
This is how I know
We will find a way

Magic

heart-1416344_1280

His kisses are full of magic
They always remind me of simpler days
And I’m wishing we’d had a lifetime together
Think we’d have been happier in so many ways

His smile often reminds me of a sunrise
His cheeks rosy red from the bitter cold
And the way his eyes soften when he looks at me
Well, It’s a look that never gets old

I get lost in the depths of who he really is
The parts that nobody else can see
And when I’m snuggled up next to him
I finally feel like I can be me

When we ignore…

sunset-3087474_1280

They scatter, fall
Lose their way
Their lives uncertain
Full of disarray

They’ve taken risks
Leading them astray
Every decision a regret
They’ll now have to pay

They can’t go on
To start a new day
Unkind words leave them
In misery and dismay

Their agony is contagious
So we keep them at bay
Then they vanish forever
As their souls fade away

We cry out in anguish
Looking for a ray
But they’re gone for good now
There is nothing left to say

*I wrote this yesterday as I thought about all the people around us who suffer alone every day.  We may not understand exactly what our friends are going through, or how to help them, but a simple word of kindness is all it often takes to make a difference in somebody’s life.  So I urge you to reach out to someone today.  You could be the one to save their life without even knowing it.  I’ve had friends do this for me; they never even knew how much their words meant to me, but they were everything in those moments when I was lost and felt like giving up.  Please don’t ignore your friends; they need you… ~M xo

Never

people-3422435_1280

We never really hit it off ― he and I
but oh how we tried.

And it was lovely at first,
it really was,
until that fateful day.

The spell finally broke,
the magic drifted away,
and I think we both felt the sting.

But we also both craved
something deeper ― meaningful.
And that something
just couldn’t
be found.
