Anything is possible…

Their connection was unique
Formed from remnants of dismantled dreams
And wiry bits of tattered truths
It was the kind of connection
Which everyone assumed would never last
Even time seemed to consider it a lost cause
But somehow between the layers
Of their oddly structured foundation
An unbelievable bond was formed
Secretly this tie grew stronger
Day by day and year by year
And without fail they proved the impossible was possible

Lovesickness

Lovesickness;
don’t catch it;
you’ll never be the same.

Seriously,
don’t contract it;
you‘ll only have yourself
to blame.

To prevent it,
you’ve got to avoid it
by looking the other way.

And don’t dare spread it
if you come down with it,
or the whole world
will be full of dismay.

Midsummer’s day

There’s magic to be found
on this midsummer day;
quiet reflections prevent it
from skittering away.

Gilded rays of light
affectionately dance;
it seems almost as if the sun
is looking for romance.

The rippling river responds,
flowing joyously round the bend,
sweeping along sparkling waters
which seem eager to descend.

Dainty green grasses dot
the edges of the stream,
always the perfect place
to curl up and dream.

Breath held deep,
eyes shut good and tight,
yet even behind closed lids,
the sun still shines so bright.

The larks seem unbothered,
flying straight overhead,
collecting more fluff
for their soft downy beds.

Cracking an eye
at the snap of a stick,
a pudgy little lizard
scurries away so quick.

Lifting to lean,
face cupped in hand,
fighting the obligation
to get up and stand.

Gaze suddenly caught
by unexpected delight,
endless rows of sunflowers
stretching towards the light.

Energized by excitement
as more wonders abound,
amazed by the brilliance
while looking around.

Every curiosity of nature,
free for all to share,
nothing else in this life
can ever compare.

Among the wildflowers

Capture

Among the wildflowers
I laid my heart bare
Speaking to myself
But imagining you there

Your eyes stared back
Hungry with need
As I spilled the words
My heart ached to bleed

You felt the fire
Underneath my dress
As I searched for heartstrings
Embedded on my chest

You fueled my flame
With your incessant desire
And I couldn’t hold back
From what you’d inspired

I gave myself over
To your smoldering touch
Pulling you closer
Wanting you so much

With my eyes closed tight
I uttered your name
On the edge of bliss
You were now mine to claim

I took all you offered
Begging for more
Freeing my desire
Like never before

And in breathless euphoria
My body laid bare
Hidden by wildflowers
Yet you were still there

Timeless Love

Excitement builds
As you wait for the day
To see your old friend
On an arranged holiday

As the day draws near
You become quite giddy
You plan to meet each other
In a faraway city

Questions cross your mind
And you’re apprehensive
You can only wonder
If she’ll find you offensive

When the day finally comes
A strange pit forms in your gut
You know you must play it safe
No matter what

Shaking in your boots
You pray she still finds you attractive
Considering your age
You hope she’ll be adaptive

Stepping off the plane
You see her slender form
She smiles and waves at you
From the small open door

More questions flood your mind
About what she’ll think
Will she still want you
Or will this be a huge mistake

You clutch the flowers tighter
A bouquet bought just for her
She begins to run to you
And all becomes a blur

Tears quickly emerge
You’ve captured her awaiting heart
Instantly you wonder
How you ever made it apart

Clutching one another
As if your life depends on this embrace
You both feel emotions
Which cannot be erased

Neither one of you
Can hold back the steady stream of tears
The warmth of her body
Erases all your fears

Finally you know for certain
She’s always been the one
You eagerly kiss her lips
And look forward to some fun

She reciprocates your affections
And smiles in satisfaction
Nothing can thwart
This overwhelming attraction

It’s been many long years
Yet somehow love remained
You realize now
Your love was not in vain

Written by, Michelle Cook

I haven’t felt much like writing lately, so I decided instead to share one of the poems from my book, Beneath the Canopy. I wrote my poem, Timeless Love, back in February 2016. This poem was inspired by an old article about a couple who had been separated during WWII. They lost all contact, she thought he’d died, and both married other people. Eventually, against all odds, a letter one of them had sent during the war finally got delivered. This letter caused them to reunite, and since both had already outlived their spouses, they were able to rekindle their romance from long ago. I was so touched by the story that I wrote my poem, Timeless Love. This poem is one of my personal favorites, and if you like this poem, please check out my book. It’s free to read if you have a Kindle unlimited membership.
