A whish of wisdom

You never know what’s coming
You never know what’s near
The world can be so sneaky
Far from kind and sincere

So guard your heart with an anvil
Your mind with a song
Praying that all the good things
Will carry you along

Don’t be fooled by the glitz
Don’t let glam be your guide
Follow the way of heartstrings
Let those transform your mind

Give away what you don’t need
Perhaps even the stuff you do
And never settle for less
Than what you know is true

*It’s been said that if you’re having trouble calming your mind, humming can help because you can’t hum and think simultaneously. Anyway, that’s where the idea for this poem came from. Like so many others, I’m an overthinker, and this humming method really helps me. And now that I’m thinking about it, I bet whistling while you work might help, too. If you give it a try, let me know if it helps.

Much love to all of you, ~M xo

Time to choose

My mind draws a blank
as the new year looms;
what will happen,
I can only assume.

I’ve a mixed bag of emotions
sitting on my lap;
if some of them spill out,
I might just snap.

I know there is so much good
about to unfold,
so I keep looking at the ground
and do as I’m told.

Don’t question the process,
is what my thoughts say;
eventually, this wary feeling
will start to go away.

But with nobody to talk to,
my mind is in a haze;
still, I try to prepare
for this new life phase.

I’ve got nothing to lose
but everything to gain,
and saying goodbye to the past
will help me stay sane
.

So, goodbye, I say
to another mixed year.
Freedom awaits;
the odds are very clear.

I’m adjusting my sails,
waiting for the wind
to prepare my course,
and then descend.

I pray for transformation
even though I don’t pray
and, hopefully, a shift
will come my way.

Clearing the dust,
looking for new views,
now’s the perfect time
for me to choose.

*The drawing is my own attempt at creating a mixed bag of emotions.  Fingers crossed that none of my emotions spill out over the coming year. 🙂 ~M xo

Renewal

we blossom just like
the flowers of the fields

as they begin their unfolding
we too are transformed
by their loveliness

mesmerized by their colorful
and ever radiant displays

we become lost in the
intricacies of each
miraculous new birth

finding ourselves
unable to exhale

stood statue still in
reverence and awe

praying silently that we don’t
upset the serenity
of such wondrous splendor

capturing in our minds what
we could never fully recreate
on our own

we remain in that still and
silent state of being

consumed by the lush
confines of such exquisite
extravagance

and we are once again
renewed by the unveiling
of new life

Writing prompt: Puffed pastries and bric-a-brac

There I was…

landscape-342149_1280

There I was,
a tarnished piece of nothingness,
just another fowl crumb of an existence,
with all the potential of a rain gutter,
yet still, you chose me.

You unearthed my shameful soul
and held me lovingly in the palm of your hand.
Then, after peeling away mounds of corroded debris,
I was no longer a piece of blackened chaff.

Instead, I became your prized gem,
an anomaly I hadn’t foreseen.
And your sovereign hand still continues,
to unfold each gossamer petal of my potential,
showing the world what real love can do.
