I forgot you
You made me forget you
And now
Whenever I think of you
I can’t remember
Why I’m thinking of you
I think a piece of my heart
Has a muscle memory of you
But my mind can no longer be sure
Your memory flitted away
On a day long ago
When there was nothing left to say
I have this vague recollection
That you once mattered to me
But maybe that was only a dream
The more I try to remember
The more I forget
And the pain I once felt is finally gone

I loved this. I know how my mind protects me by shielding me from painful memories. I cannot remember how my friend looked just before she died of cancer. My mind has hidden that from view. This was beautiful.

Thank you… I’m so glad your mind allowed you to remember the good memories instead. ❤️

Michelle, I absolutely loved your poem “I Can’t Remember You.” I write reviews of both past and present poetry on my own page, and I hope you don’t mind, but I featured your poem in a recent post. I’ve shared the link below. If you’d prefer I take it down for any reason, just let me know, and I’ll remove it right away.
Congratulations on all your success so far—I’m excited to see more of your wonderful work in the future! You can find the review here.

Adam, I feel so honored that you decided to review my work. In fact, it brought tears to my eyes knowing that someone could understand and describe all that I was trying to say. Your review couldn’t have been more spot on and it’s nice to know I don’t have to wait for such an introspective look at my work until after I die like most poets often do. lol… Thank you so much for taking the time to do this and for sharing it on your blog. Your wonderfully written review and your kindness in doing this means so much more to me than you could ever know. ❤️

It’s good when you realize that things don’t always need to turn out the way you envisioned. I’m learning that as I go and I’m happier for it. ❤️
