You stare at me
All bright and clean
Forever taunting
It’s so damn mean

I know your game
I’ve seen it before
Ever daring me
To come explore

To drip my ink
Upon your page
Convincing me
It’s all the rage

But what if I finally
Told you no
Would you then
Just let me go

Or would you dare me
To be your writer
Suggesting I stay
For an overnighter

I can tell you this
You’re wasting your attempts
Cause I feel nothing
But contempt

So unless you want
Your page turned grey
Think I’ll just
Be on my way

What would you do?

detective-1424831_1280

What would you do
If you had a whole day?
Would you leave behind the things
That always get in your way?

Would you watch a sunset?
Or perhaps fly a kite?
Maybe sit on your front porch
And drink milkshakes all night?

What would you do
If you had an entire week?
Would you search for all the things
You’ve been dying to seek?

Would you act like a pirate?
And finally go on an adventure?
Searching far and wide
For that lost buried treasure?

What would you do
If you had a full month?
Would you express to the whole world
That you’ve had quite enough?

Would you go on a rampage?
Perhaps tell everyone how you feel?
Or would you just stay inside
And keep everything concealed?

What would you do
If you had a complete year?
Would you investigate all the things
Which have never been clear?

Would your curious mind take over?
Would you become a sleuth?
Perhaps a professional eavesdropper
So you could uncover the truth?

What would you do
If you had a forever?
Would you still stay inside
Even in good weather?

Or would you finally just enjoy
Everything you’ve got
And not let your life
Be all for naught

What would you do?

Hold Your Hankering Horses

horse-3555391_1280

Hold your hankering horses
You know you really must
A little patience is so important
Or else you’ll surely bust

Hold your hankering horses
And quit being so demanding
Don’t you know life is always better
With a little bit of understanding?

Hold your hankering horses
Your antsy attitude needs to go
People don’t like impatience
This is something you ought to know

Hold your hankering horses
Just sit still and listen to me now
I’m explaining your main issue
And if you want to fix it, this is how

Hold your hankering horses
Get a grip and don’t wind up in a tizzy
I’m sorry to say that your behavior
Is only making the rest of us dizzy

Hold your hankering horses
This is the last thing I’m going to say
If you can’t calm down and be patient
Then please just go away

An indecisive tale

fire-971949_1280.jpg

Peering out from the dark cavern
A brilliant light shone from the other side of the lake
Her intuition told her to be cautious
And yet her curiosity was more than she could take

The light flickered in luminescent waves
Dancing across the water’s edge
Captivating her inquisitive mind
She didn’t hesitate to forgo her pledge

So off she went to explore the island
Lured by the radiance of such an unusual sight
And as her boat landed on the southern shore
Her senses began filling her with fright

Savage beasts appeared to be dancing
Amongst the glow of flaming embers
And she watched as screaming prisoners
Were all mercilessly dismembered

Before long she was spotted on the shore
And those barbarians sought her without delay
A prize she certainly was
A sitting duck on carnivorous display

And though she tried her best to escape
The cannibals were far too many
They looked at her as a gift from the gods
As if she were a lovely bright shiny penny

It seemed she was far too beautiful to kill
So instead the chief made her his wife
And now she lives in the lap of luxury
Resigned to eating people with a fork and knife

A Peeping Poet

paul-chabas-september-morn-the-metropolitan-museum-of-art.jpg!Large

It’s a crisp fall morning
As she carefully dips her toes
There’s a hidden alcove there
Where nobody goes

The water is calm
So very peaceful and serene
And she washes discreetly
Mindful she isn’t seen

A sudden splash and ripple
Quickly catch her attention
And she shields her breasts
In modest apprehension

But it’s only just a loon
Seeking out its prey
And her fear subsides
As the majestic creature flies away

Back to her bathing
She becomes lost in introspection
So she bends down slowly
To look at her reflection

She sees a stubby little nose
With wide blue eyes
And there’s a small pointy chin
Which she’d like to disguise

Her blurred image
Stares back for quite awhile
And something about it
Suddenly makes her smile

She lets out an embarrassed giggle
After realizing she’s been seen
She happens to notice a poet
Has come upon the scene

I’m so sorry I reply
To disturb you in the nude
I wanted to capture the moment
Even though I see it was rather rude

Please go on with your bathing
And I’ll return from where I came
And next time I see you
I’ll try my best to refrain
