Just because…

He knows the exact way
To pull me out
Whenever the world
Doesn’t want me about

He sees me for me
And loves all my flaws
He accepts who I am
There is no hidden clause

He keeps my secrets
And shares his own
Never making me feel
As if I’m alone

He cares for me
In a way nobody else does
And he does it all
Just because

Writing prompt:  Melted bliss

The purpose of a book

book-863418_960_720

Embedded between
Every worn page and fold
Some stories beg to be read
While others just want to be told

Simple black lettering
Has so much to tell
The story’s whole purpose
Is to put you under its spell

Each book can charm
Captivate and delight
Some can bring a smile
While others fill us with fright

But every unique word
Seems to have the same effect
It pushes the reader to learn
And quite often reflect

And by the end of our lives
We’ve shared hundreds more
For each book that we read
Is another life explored

Every story is a vast world
Created by a dream
Filled to the very brim
With secrets bursting at the seams

And I think that I like knowing
That there is always a book to explore
For a chance to live through another’s dream
Is something we should never ignore

The Secret Key

stones-3364324_960_720

Sometimes you reach a point
Where you must let go
And that’s always hard
When you finally know

But then you just pray
That the hurt will go away
Hopeful that a friend
Will brighten your day

And it doesn’t always happen
But sometimes it does
And the reason doesn’t matter
It’s all just because

So you go on with life
As well as you can
Trusting that someday
You’ll understand

And even if you never do
You trust in the process
Trying to think positive
And not count your losses

And try as you may
You might never again feel whole
In fact you might just hide away
Like a reclusive little mole

But you realize life goes on
And you can’t just feel down
You know you don’t want your smile
To turn into a permanent frown

So you drag yourself to your feet
And you give it all another go
And you tell yourself
That this isn’t all for show

And you trust that you’ll overcome
For you cannot fail
Because you make your mind up
That you will prevail

Because that’s what a strong person does
And they’re the ones who always survive
They hold the key to the greatest secret
The one about being happy just for being alive

And if each of us can grasp this
And find that secret key
We can all be happy
Full of life and living carefree

Her Fortress of Solitude

writing-1209121_960_720
Plagued by daily thoughts
Of disorganized whimsy
She’s forced to relegate to a chair
That’s tattered and flimsy

Shoved into her hand
Is a warm cup of black tea
In the other hand a pen
And a notebook on her knee

Sipping the day away
With an intense look of determination
Sometimes random smiles appear
Others times grimaces of frustration

Secretly she knows
The story which she’s telling
She only hopes that others
Will one day find it compelling

Carried far away
By all of her imaginative thoughts
She fervently scribbles down words
Ever assessing the plot

Biting her lower lip
She stares out the window
Very carefully considering
Who will be her hero

Time ticks away
And she’s oblivious to the passing hours
All she can think of
Is who she’ll entrust with superpowers

Every decision must be impeccable
And scrupulously thought out
She’s knows there cannot be
Even the slightest bit of doubt
