Pep talk

Capture

Been caught up
in an expeditious experiment
A plethora of knowledge
And facts

These things whirl around me
Senseless things
Meaningless and trivial
Things I do not wish to know

And I struggle with mediocrity
Without the faintest idea
Of why any of this is important
Always falling short of my peers

This newfound lingo
Is just so discombobulating
Piercing my young flesh
With worthless
Uncreative filth

Feels like rubbish
Perpetually seeping in
Corrupting my right brain
Controlling my left
All nonsensical rigmarole
Yet fundamental to my worth

And I can’t see past
all these rudimentary devices
So what does that mean?

Am I somehow less brilliant
Because of my perception
of these uncertain
edifying truths?

Maybe my rationale is slanted
But I happen to think
I’m still somebody pretty great

And I may not ever be a superhero
Or even get a gold star
planted on my chest

But I’m me
and that’s pretty remarkable
I’m amazing! I really am!

Wafts of wintry splendor

cold-1284028_1280

Wafts of wintry splendor
roll across my shoes.
Tickling the tip of my nose
anything to amuse.

I giggle at the exchange
between the natural world and me.
Nothing can ever cheer me up
like the earth and all the wonder I see.

Revering Snowflakes

snowflake

Alabaster
in purest form.

Frozen diamonds
like tears from heaven.

Shimmery flecks
woven by the breath of winter.

Delicate intricacies
formed with care.

Fashioned for wonder
by the hand of God.

A split second miracle
marveled by all.

Stop and Listen

Stop and listen
Hear the sound
New life teeming
All around

Look at the fields
The sky, the earth
All so lovely
Full of rebirth

Listen to the ocean
And the stoic geese
Notice the beauty
Find your inner peace

See the world
Through brand new eyes
What you observe
Might be a surprise

Stop for a moment
Catch your breath
Plenty to live for
Before life meets death

Misplaced things

plank-729441_1280

I once wrote about a place
That was neither here nor there
A place found between the realms
Of hope and despair

And in that in-between place
I remember finding what I’d lost
Yet finding that place
Came with innumerable costs

And I wonder now
If it was all worth it in the end
For finding what I’d lost
Only made me want to lose it again

And isn’t that how life is
Always searching for things misplaced
So many wonderful things
Seem to vanish without a trace

And when we think we’ve found our losses
We cling on with all our might
Hopeful that somehow
They’ll bring back our lost delight

And yet sadly our thinking
Often leads us further astray
Until we finally realize
We just need to go another way
