A jumbled mess of magic

book2

There’s a jumbled mess
Inside my head
Really should
Withdraw to bed

Words plunder
My will for sleep
Inside my mind
They slowly creep

Each syllable beckons
Insisting I play along
My willpower can’t resist
It just isn’t that strong

So I write another stanza
Affixing it to the page
The only place which allows me
To set my own stage

Excitement pours forth
As I’m just about done
And I hear the crowds react
As my magic is spun

The Secret Key

stones-3364324_960_720

Sometimes you reach a point
Where you must let go
And that’s always hard
When you finally know

But then you just pray
That the hurt will go away
Hopeful that a friend
Will brighten your day

And it doesn’t always happen
But sometimes it does
And the reason doesn’t matter
It’s all just because

So you go on with life
As well as you can
Trusting that someday
You’ll understand

And even if you never do
You trust in the process
Trying to think positive
And not count your losses

And try as you may
You might never again feel whole
In fact you might just hide away
Like a reclusive little mole

But you realize life goes on
And you can’t just feel down
You know you don’t want your smile
To turn into a permanent frown

So you drag yourself to your feet
And you give it all another go
And you tell yourself
That this isn’t all for show

And you trust that you’ll overcome
For you cannot fail
Because you make your mind up
That you will prevail

Because that’s what a strong person does
And they’re the ones who always survive
They hold the key to the greatest secret
The one about being happy just for being alive

And if each of us can grasp this
And find that secret key
We can all be happy
Full of life and living carefree

Connected by love

Connected by love
The kind that only comes from heaven above

Connected at the heart
Knowing life is too short to spend it apart

Connected by a dream
Of one day being an unstoppable team

Connected in soul
Each one always making the other feel whole

Connected by magic
The miles between them is undeniably tragic

Writing prompt – Connected by love

Her Eyes

eye-1132531_960_720

Her eyes
A sea of uncertainty
Revealed a torrid past
Of waves not easily reckoned with
For the fervent tide was still there
Lingering on the isolated shore
And the longer he gazed
Into her peridot eyes
The more he realized
Just how deep and vast
The ocean really was
Which separated him from her

Friends Forever

children

Little girl
Blond hair blue eyes
Living the happiest
Days of her life

For right beside
Is her very best friend
A young boy
Of almost ten

Dangling their feet
At the end of the pier
Just happy to know
The other is near

Spending each day
Climbing trees
Too much fun
To notice scrapped knees

Riding bikes
All over town
Smiling and happy
Never sharing a frown

Now side by side
Near the river’s edge
Each silently makes
A forever pledge

For he’s her hero
And she’s his muse
Both something to the other
Neither wants to lose

Friends forever
Never to part
Lucky to have each other
From the very start

I wrote this poem years ago and it always reminds me of my best friend C, and what I imagine it would have been like to grow-up with him.  So wherever you are today C, and whatever you’re doing, I hope you have the best birthday ever.  Love and miss you… ~M xoxo
