Robin’s egg blue
Takes me back to you
You were the loveliest creature
I memorized your every feature
But cornflower days
Were never long stays
I had you for just a short while
Amidst the decaying dandelion pile
You should’ve had more
A bit of forest green to explore
Instead the pacific blue
Became your life-long hue
Those sea green and periwinkle days
Formed all of your mahogany ways
You stayed purple mountain majesty true
To your olive green and cadet blue
Carnation pink and brick red brown
Followed you into the burnt orange ground
And bittersweet left the taste of gray
As the sky-blue in your eyes faded away

*Just needed to repost this today. Been thinking of my grandfather and his patriotism. He was my hero and loved this country more than anybody else I’ve ever known. He gave me my love for the United States of America and taught me to never say an ill word about our country. I love you so much grandpa. You were a rare gem in this world and will never be forgotten by me and all who knew you. May you rest in peace today and always.
I loved all the colors in this. It took me back to my childhood, when I was captivated by all the color names for crayons and paints. I still am.

It was a color challenge for me that turned into so much more. I’m glad it was able to take you back. ❤️

What a wonderful tribute and loving memory. Needless to say, your artistic expression with such colorful imagery and word selection. The nature that draws us in and The essence of the people that warms our hearts!

Thank you so much. Every time I read this back I get teary-eyed. And ever since I posted it yesterday, I’ve had the words running through my mind. My grandfather made such an impact on my life and he’s still inspiring me even now.

Beautiful – I love all the color imagery – really made the poem come alive. (Also, I love the “Read a Random Post” feature on your blog. Such a cool idea!)

Aww… thank you. 😉 And yes, I thought that might be a good idea. I have that option on both of my blogs. Sometimes I press it just to read old things i’ve written. It’s kind of fun to see what shows up. Lol… 😉

It’s funny, I had no intention of writing something like this when I started. I guess I just never know what will come out out of this head of mine. Hope your day is going good. 😉

Beautiful! Is this about your grandfather? ☺❤

Yes, it’s sort of a combination about both of them. I started out challenging myself to write about all 64 crayola colors. I didn’t get even halfway I don’t think, but it was fun to try. 😉

They helped make me who I am today. I was closer to my grandfather’s than anyone else. Especially my grandfather on my mother’s side.

So…You like older men huh? 😀

Lol…. Men are amazing creatures any way they come. However, one of my celebrity crushes is Sean Connery. Lol… My grandfather’s were both wonderful in so many different ways. I think their love for nature was what connected me to them the most.
