Magic is oft found

*The drawing was done by yours truly. I think the practice is helping. Merry Christmas everyone! ~M xo

Strings of white lights
Strung all around
Soft petaled snowflakes
Falling to the ground
Joyous carolers
Spreading musical cheer
Everyone reminiscing
About another great year
Wide-eyed children
Gathered round each tree
Meeting with Santa
And sitting on his knee
Secret mistletoe kisses
In candlelit rooms
Red poinsettias
Never failing to bloom
Warm eggnog cocktails
And bobble-filled wreaths
Celebrating a season
Full of many beliefs
Garland draped windows
With snowy white scenes
These are the memories
From our childhood dreams

*I’ve decided to start doing more drawings to go with my poems. I don’t draw nearly enough and I feel like my skills need improving. So… I am going to do a weekly drawing and write a poem to go with each one. I guess by deciding this, I’m sort of starting my New Years resolutions early, What do y’all think? Any other ideas for how I can improve my drawing skills while still keeping up with my poetry? ~M

Write me a poem
Express what you will
It doesn’t have to rhyme
Just tell me how you feel
It can be candid or cryptic
Full of love or even hate
Just tell me how you’re doing
I’ll give no debate
The things that you write
Won’t be judged by me
Just say what you want
And set yourself free
Let your words flow easily
Pour them on a page
You might find it helpful
To empty some rage
Whatever spills out
Must come from deep within
And don’t get so frustrated
That you throw them in the bin
Every word matters
The good and the bad
Sometimes this is the only way
To empty all the sad
So please take your time
And tell me how you feel
Be it positive or negative
It’s the only way to heal
You’ll be relieved to have unburdened
What’s been clinging to your soul
It’s the only good way
To feeling happy and whole

We get ourselves up,
and the magic begins;
stretching for miles,
inspiration spins.
Winding its way
from shore to shore,
sorcery floods pages
with creativity galore.
None can get enough,
so we suck it all in,
not a single word
goes in the bin.
Ideas flow freely,
our pages complete;
every word written
a mesmerizing treat.
Images spill out
on thirsty pages;
hungrily, we feed
as momentum rages.
The mind a playground,
every heart, a child;
the results of a writer
full of wonder and wild.

Hello everyone,
Today I’m pleased to announce the release of a new favorite children’s book of mine, “Tales from the waterhole, by Michael Coates.
