Meandering thoughts…

As spring bleeds into summer,
I know fall will soon usher in,
and the memories of you
will just become more vivid.
This was your season,
the one my dream foretold.

You were happiest here
amongst the acorns
and the cottonwood trees.
And you never missed a chance
to tell me how it was the song
of your heart.

As more memories flood me now,
I wrestle with the wind
as it disrupts my tears;
a cold hand for comfort
is all it can offer my soul.

The light of you
left my path long ago.
But I still see you
in every golden leaf
that glides my way.

Inky blackness and the faintest glow of light from around the door

The room was filled with inky blackness, and only the faintest glow of light could be seen from around the edges of the door. Once in a while, that faint light flickered, announcing the existence of someone in the hall. The sounds behind the door were mostly low and muffled, but every now and then, a shrill scream or clanking of metal could be heard. The most alarming sounds were the sudden scuffles of feet and the dragging of nails across wooden floorboards. Stifled whimpers often followed the tousles, along with deep moans and echoing groans. Sometimes the light beneath the door would abruptly disappear and then reappear as footsteps faded away. It was a lonesome place, with very little to do, but the sounds could stretch the mind, and for that, it was anything but uninspiring.

Writing prompt: Inky blackness and the faintest glow of light from around the door

Something to cling to…

Amid the chaos
of our cluttered world,
sometimes we have only
but a past moment,
something distinctly different
from all the other colorless days.
And that one solitary moment,
the one we treasure
with fondness and love
gives us something to cling to
when we can no longer see
a single thread of light.
Those rare moments exist
to reassure us during the times
when the dark dares
to snuff out our light.
That one blessed memory
is often what unexpectedly
sees us through.

The heart of who I am

Another day dims
but the light of your love
radiates brighter than ever.
In this worn out, weary world
you’re the one constant,
the heart of who I am.
You’re my shimmering star,
the everlasting one
whom I continue to follow.
Even when darkness
overtakes me,
nobody, not one
can change my mind.
For you live within me,
you’re the breath of my soul,
the very reason I shine.
I love you completely,
and I will trust you with my life
because you gave me yours.

I often wish…

I often wish…
Thunderstorms could be kinder
Perhaps they come
To serve as a reminder

I often wish…
Rainbows could stay all day
But maybe they disappear
Because of all the gray

I often wish…
The moon could be less blue
Perhaps it’s just reflecting
The moods of me n you

I often wish…
The rain could be less wet
But maybe in all the pouring
Our own tears we forget

I often wish…
We could have less gloomy days
Perhaps all the darkness
Helps us appreciate the rays

I often wish…
I could reach up and pick a star
But maybe that would ruin
The wonder of all they are

I often wish…
Snowstorms could stay away
Perhaps they come to remind us
Of times we need to play

I often wish…
The sun could stay and never set
But maybe the reason
Is for the glory we can’t forget

I often wish…
This world could just see
That the beauty all around us
Is a reminder of what could be
