Buttery biscuits

Better than anything,
her cuteness makes me smile.

Underneath the maple tree,
we laugh for a very long while.

The next thing we both know,
the sun is nearing its stage to set.

Time seems like our enemy
when we realize that’s all we get.

End-of-day loveliness
stretches across the carnation sky.

Remembering the late hour,
still deferring the day’s goodbye.

Yesterday’s such as this
often leave a feeling of bittersweet.

But those memories, they fill us
on days when we’re incomplete.

Illusions of everlasting delight
remain cradled upon our chests.

So many things a mother suffers,
the losses are hard to digest.

Come what may we say in quiet,
as the years start to pass us by.

Until the end draws nearer
and we’re left with all the why’s.

It’s the not knowing that hurts the most;
the answers never found.

This life is never easy,
but we do our best to be around.

Silently we pass; still, nobody ever knows
all a mother suffers and endures
as they watch their babies grow.

Nighttime whispers

The past still beckons me,
though my future is clear.
Still, it’s hard to leave behind
all the things we once held dear.

Unfortunately, people change,
and our hearts wail in disbelief.
And those unspoken topics
are the bearers of our grief.

Woeful whispers in the night
tend to fuel my disheartened spirit.
I try to bandage my bleeding heart,
but nothing can ever cure it.

So many things I want to forget,
but there’s nothing I can undo.
So I spend my days looking for ways
to begin my life anew.

Only One Earth

I walk upon your rugged valleys;
I dance upon your golden shores.
Your unwavering resplendence
is what compels me to explore.

You’re a spinning top of wonder,
a creation whose pleasing to the eye,
and during my many excursions,
I’ve often stood in awe and cried.

Words just can’t describe you;
the heart of you cannot be explained.
And those who notice your glory
tend to stop and rollick in your rain.

Some seek to protect your beauty,
and yet others see a never-ending chore,
but those who truly love you
would do anything to make you more.

The magnificence of your vastness,
the provisions you supply the world for free,
are never taken for granted
by those who consider all they see.

You are everyone’s big ball of brilliance,
your grandeur spills out over the land,
and you will always be protected
by those who are willing to take a stand.

Carefree considerations

When you try to cheer yourself up,
but nothing really works,
and your friends are all being
such unapproachable jerks.

You just have to remember
that some days will suck,
so hold your head high
and don’t give a f**K.

And if you feel like screaming,
just let it all out.
Say every nasty word,
and don’t hesitate to shout.

If the neighbors start to complain,
just scream a little louder;
they’ll look the other way
when they see your rifle and gun powder.

Stand as tall as you can
and bid your shitty day farewell
because you’ve made up your mind,
knowing it’s better not to dwell.

Be happy you’re alive
and be grateful for each day.
And don’t forget to laugh sometimes,
it really is okay.

Gridiron greatness

After years of careful collaboration
between architects, artists, and engineers,
the skyline, at last, exploded
in a grand, gridiron fashion.

The smokestacks of the past
all became the skyscrapers of the future.
But, noticeably, nothing ever really changed
except the city’s outer physique.

The conscientious construct
paved the way for future endeavors,
but commercial enterprise
didn’t stand a chance.

Industry rocketed into the future,
but in the end, nobody could hold on.
And we all know the laws of physics
will sadly never change.

Thank you to my hubby for the writing prompt: Gridiron greatness

*Also, I know he probably expected me to write about football, but sometimes a writer just can’t be swayed. 😉
