Loneliness
it comes in many forms
and I have known them all.
But I think the loneliest times
are when I’m surrounded
by a sea of expressionless faces.
Those empty-eyed, silent beings
always appear to be lost in
mind-numbing, alien-sweeping,
brain-snatching activity.
And if I stare intently enough,
focusing long and hard enough,
I can almost see those denatured
souls being surreptitiously sucked
out of every finger-tapping mortal
who has unknowingly fallen victim
to the technological advances
of our times.
It often leaves me queasy
and fearfully uneasy.
For I must admit that I too,
have fallen subject to the
interest of self-isolation
within the matrix.
Using it as a security blanket
for companionship
because community
no longer exists
within the confines
of my existence.
There are instances
when I do attempt
to turn the world around.
And with desperate breath
I try to disengage
from the illuminated rectangle
nestled nice and neat
between my pale palms.
But then loneliness sneaks in,
finding me once again.
And the screen in my hands
becomes the only life left
to be found.

Technology will be the death of our planet and species.

In every game ever played, it always is… I once had a dream about the way it’ll all turn out. It’s very sad to me, but I don’t doubt that the things I saw may actually happen.

We will climb too high in that great tower of Babel and plummet to our self imposed deaths.

Just added a new poem about this called ‘masked morality’. Check it out!

Great piece, and madly ironic in the medium upon which it is delivered.

I can relate.. its why I am reaching out to connect with others in the living world more lately. still I have found great support on this site but there is nothing as hard as feeling alone and disconnected when surrounded by those who are not fully present. you expressed this beautifully..

Thank you… It’s an uphill battle we’re all facing these days, but the more we reach out, I think the better things will turn out.

More often than not, I can identify this entanglement with the “screen in my hands.” That first line is a devastating one.
